As February 14th fast approaches it seems that we hear more and more about L-O-V-E. Champagne dinners, diamond jewelry, and boxes of chocolates dance across our television and computer screens and populate our magazines. That love is grand, but there’s another kind of love that’s been getting a lot of press lately too, the furry, four-legged kind.

This piece in the Daily Mail entitled Why your dog really DOES love you (and it’s not just because of all the treats you give it!) talks about just that, our pets and their capacity to love.

Wonder Dog in the New York Times Magazine tells the touching, in-depth story of a service dog named Chancer and the profound effect he’s had on his boy with special needs.

The adorable, scene-stealing dogs in recent movies like “The Adventures of Tintin” and Oscar-nominated “The Artist” portray the essence of the constant canine companion always looking out for their master.

Stories like these remind us how powerful the devotion and unconditional love of our pets can be.

The Hand We’ve Dealt

You know us, we’re always looking for ways to keep things fun and interesting.

That’s what led us to decide that our regular old business card was getting a little boring and come up with the idea for the Bone Adventure trade card.

Did you know that at one point in American history trade cards were among the most popular forms of advertisement? From roughly the 1880s through the turn of the century an American public enamored with new color printing technology made collecting trade cards and pasting them into albums one of the most popular pastimes of the day. The Baker Library at Harvard has a great exhibit of trade cards that you can view online here.

We drew inspiration from this rich past and brought it into the present.

Shortly after our trade card was released we noticed that it was disappearing surprisingly fast, and that’s when we realized: you were collecting it. Originally envisioned as a one-time design, you made our idea even better and the Bone Adventure collectible card was born.

We are now on our third design, and if you’ve collected all three they are going to come in very handy this week.

From now until Monday October 10th bring in all three cards for 25% off any single non-food item. Bring in two different designs and receive 15% off any single non-food item.

We’ve Got Fall Collared

Tomorrow, September 23rd, at 5:05 a.m. what we’ve been feeling in the air recently becomes official: we enter the fall season.

Goldzilla

Is there a better way to spend a sunny Saturday than engaging in some top-notch dog-watching? We don’t think so. Therefore last weekend was a definite good time. It was great to see everybody out and about at Woofstock and the Dachshund Races.

This weekend the fun continues in a major way. What they say about Goldzilla is true: It’s big. It’s hairy. And it’s very, very friendly. And it’s coming your way this Saturday the 17th. As a sponsor of this event we must warn you that the mere sight of so many Golden Retrievers in one location may cause you to smile until the following weekend. That said, we suggest it.

Also this weekend there is a fundraiser for the Beltrami dog park in Northeast Minneapolis. We love this neighborhood! If you attend you will find live music, food and drink, contests and games, and the chance to win Bone Adventure gift cards!

Dachshund Races and Woofstock

We’ve had a very fun, busy summer and we hope you have too. It’s been filled with so many events that we’ve neglected the blog! Now that kids are back in school and we’ve had a taste of cool fall air we’re not letting up one bit.

September has many great events for all of us animal lovers, starting with this Saturday September 10th.

Can you believe it’s the 37th Annual James J. Hill Days and the 27th Annual Dachshund Races in Wayzata this Saturday? We can’t, and we’ve been a part of them since almost the very beginning. We’re proud to sponsor this event, and can’t wait to see some great races from these very fierce, and long, little competitors.

Saturday is also the 7th annual Woofstock in Linden Hills. This is a great event in another beautiful neighborhood that we are happy to serve. We are glad to be back again this year, and hope to see you there as well.

Hey, if you time it right you could even make it to both events!
